2002/2003 Report - B5 Grade
Well fellas another season has past and unfortunately we didn't do quite as well as expected. It was another one of those years where we probably lost some games that we should have won easily, particularly with the way the first half of the season went.
Firstly I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support throughout the season both on the field and off. It is always tough being captain for the first time, but every ones willingness to be prepared to adopt some of my non-regulation field placements and some new thinking on bowling went a long way to making my life as easy and enjoyable as possible and I believe delivered the goods when we otherwise would have struggled.
Unfortunately I think our batting had something to be desired at times with the legendary Baulko collapse happening on more than one occasion, and we weren't quite as tight in the field as we have been in past years dropping way to many catches. Regardless of this I could not say there was ever a time when everyone was not giving 100% at all times on the field.
I think we would all agree that Sam Waterhouse should be thanked for filling in when required, also I would like to make special mention of Brian King who had tough task of leading the team after I had torn my hamstring in only his second year with us. It was big ask and Brian gritted his teeth and got on with it, thank you. Again all those who have contributed to the end-of-season weekend both through the bookings, the trophies and we cannot forget the food and the yearbook, thank you. Finally I have a very special thank you to Jeremy Billings who over the course of the season attended all the club meetings in his new role of team manager and he also generally looked after the equipment. I for one will vote for you next season to continue in this roll.
You have all contributed over the season and I look forward to 2003/2004 when we all return to the madness. I for one would love a full season with no injury problems and I hope that those of you who could not commit to the full season this year, can do so next year. It's always fun spending time with you guys on the field and at the Sporting Club. I just hope someone learns to play cricket in the off-season.
All the best lads
Dave Henry
