2003/2004 Report - A Grade
Another long and disappointing season for A Grade. Having lost eight players from the previous year we were always going to struggle against experienced opposition. To the young guys and the couple of senior players who stepped up to enable us to field a team I thank you. It was not particularly enjoyable to be beaten, sometimes quite badly each week but to your credit no one gave up. I especially thank Nick who through his enthusiasm to play and his encouragement held the team together on many occasions. It was a steep learning curve for most of the guys but hopefully the lessons learned will prove invaluable for the future.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR
Jay Smith 8/48 out of a total of 251 against Kings Langley
David Byrne 5/44 against the leaders Hills Barbarians
Nick Connellan 7/75, 43 and 31 against Greystanes
Glen Mulvaney 53 in around 14 scoring shots versus Wenty Waratahs
Nick Connellan 78 versus Wenty Waratahs
A big thank you to Hilton for always being around to lend a hand with either putting out the covers on a Friday night, serving in the canteen or filling in when we were short. Thanks to Jenny for scoring each and every week and to Rick for playing, usually with no notice. Also thanks to Trent Hession and Phil Woods for making themselves available, I hope that you enjoyed the run on turf and Andrew Pittman who can thank A Grade for playing him into form. To Glen Mulvaney thanks for the spectacular batting display at the picturesque Coleman Park and to our small band of loyal supporters thanks for your encouragement.
It was personally frustrating to find that after the problems of the previous season the club appeared to have no pride in having a strong and competitive team for their top grade. There is a huge amount of talent throughout the club and I believe that we should be passionate about encouraging players to challenge themselves and strive to play at the highest level possible.
We should all be asking ourselves, what can we do for the club? Not what can the club do for us!
