Baulkham Hills Cricket Club

Ken Smith
(Awarded Life Membership 1982)

Ken would have to be one of the most durable people ever to be involved with Baulkham Hills. A man who has put in countless hours for the benefit of his fellow club members. A recent example has been the time spent over the past few years with the Sports Action Group, relative to Council introducing charges for use of grounds. Ken is a real fighter and is always prepared to go in and "negotiate" the fairest deal for his Club.

Ken first played cricket with the Club in 1959/60 when he won the bowling average and fielding trophy with the B3 team. Ken was a very good spin bowler and a handy batsman. He captained several teams and was a member of the following premiership teams: B2 in 1962/63, B7 in 1983/84 and B8 in 1990/91.

Ken has held many positions and they include:

- Member of various active committees
- Vice President of cricket club
- Chairman of SAYAS
- Coached and managed junior cricket teams
- Managed PDCA representative teams including country and New Zealand tours
- Chairman of Soccer Division
- Awarded Stirrer's Spoon
- Awarded Clubman of the Year (1975/76)
- Life Member of both Cricket Division and Sporting Club

Ken's wife, Heather, has been a very active contributor with the Ladies Auxiliary and was awarded "Clubman of the Year" in 1984/85. Both boys, Stuart and Murray, played with Baulko. Ken still plays cricket with Parramatta Golden Oldies.
